In 2018, Brice Scheschuk began searching for the secret to successful mentoring relationships. This month, the initiative MindFrame Connect partnered with Dal Innovates to present its latest findings to Halifax.

Hear from Brice Scheschuk as he shares his journey breaking into the Canadian telecom space, the evolution of entrepreneurship through different eras, and impactful skills necessary for anyone looking to achieve success. He also explains the importance of mentorship and how he’s helping the next generation through MindFrame Connect.

Brice serves on numerous boards and advisory committees (public, private, and not-for-profit) and is a mentor at CDL-Atlantic and CDL-Toronto. He is a co-founder of MindFrame Connect, a not-for-profit focused on elevating the craft of mentorship and improving entrepreneurial resiliency.

With an objective to develop more and better science and tech ventures, Dal Innovates programs are a launchpad for start-ups that go on to the Emera ideaHUB, CDL-Atlantic and the larger ecosystem of incubators and accelerators in Atlantic Canada. It also leads MindFrame Connect, which helps entrepreneurs elevate their resilience to overcome the stress and pressure of venture creation, enhances the craft of mentoring entrepreneurs, and develops more equity, diversity and inclusion in the innovation ecosystem.

Identifying some of the key challenges currently facing the technology sector can serve as a road map for those exploring a new venture, in addition to helping weigh the pros and cons of entering the market and determining how to design a strategy that works best to support the success of a new venture in high-growth technology.

Brice Scheschuk (BComm’94) is managing partner with Globalive Capital, an investment platform focused on venture, technology and innovation. He’s also a speaker associate of the Creative Destruction Lab in Atlantic Canada.

Brice is an incredibly accomplished entrepreneur well known for founding Wind Mobile(now Freedom Mobile). Brice took on many different roles during his time with Wind Mobile, where he developed an interesting perspective and process of solving the issues that came before him. He shares his experiences in his career and his philosophy of success.

On this episode, Brice recounts a CDL mentoring experience that had him shook, questioning everything about the systems we build to support entrepreneurs, and the amount of effort and thought that goes into building those systems.

While in the final year of her PhD, Mahesha Asiriwardhana had a bold new idea to optimize the nutritional content of poultry feed with essential amino acids. These amino acids would not only contribute to the health of the chickens, but to the health of consumers and the environment as well. To expand her idea beyond the lab, Asiriwardhana turned to Dal Innovates’ Lab2Market accelerator program. At the core of this 16-week program, students complete an in-depth customer discovery process to determine if there is a viable market for their product with the support of mentors.

The Schulich Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship added a new program to its portfolio of accelerator/incubator services this past month. The newly announced Schulich Startups Mentorship Program invited six Schulich Founders to receive four months of curated mentorship from veteran Founders and Investors, who are Schulich Alumni themselves.

There are ever greater numbers of faculty and students participating in Dalhousie’s robust slate of entrepreneurship and innovation programs via Dal Innovates, Emera ideaHUB, MindFrame Connect and the Sandboxes. Aimed at turning research-based ideas into ventures, these programs are empowering our community to grow their impact on the regional and national economies.

Mindframe Connect presents workshops, literature, podcasts, and more, and has a Halifax connection, as well; Dalhousie University is one of Mindframe’s co-creators.
